| It is in recognition of these values and of the perseverance of Prof. Mario Emanuele Bianchetti that the European Union has frequently involved the Foundation in the realisation of important initiatives aimed at spreading the principles of Health Promotion.
Over the years the Incontri di Madruzzo Foundation has held conferences and developed both local and international Health projects in collaboration with WHO (The World Health Organisation); in the period '93/'95, for example, with the co-operation of WHO Copenhagen, Yale University, The Office for Public Management (London), and the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano(Italy), the Foundation set in motion what was, in fact, to become the prologue to The Verona Initiative.
From that early work emerged the initial guidelines regarding the most appropriate action to be undertaken in order to reinforce the foundations of the Health System, making use of its social components, through probing research into the yield on investments made and effective gains in terms of Health.
The large-scale project, carried out over three years (1998-2000) and successively called "The Verona Initiative" developed out of the gratifying earlier experience and the commitment of the Foundation in interpreting a new and highly important need felt by all European nations: that of having access to a new arena of debate with the active participation of representatives of the various governments along with the presence of major international co-operation Agencies.
Numerous other significant contributions in the field of Health have been made by the Incontri di Madruzzo Foundation in the course of the years, among the most noteworthy the ' Reform of the Health Reform in Italy in 1988, the study carried out for the development of the National Health Service in Italy and the ambitious project for the creation of a European Health System. In all of the above initiatives Nobel Prizewinners, Deans of major European and American Universities, politicians, scientists and Heads of Governments were involved.
The Incontri di Madruzzo Foundation is at present involved in the development of the Tahta Project (Trieste Action for Health Technology Assessment) in collaboration with the World Health Organisation, the University of Trieste, Trieste Science Park and Ital Tbs SpA. Furthermore, the Foundation promotes activities with non-profit, non-governmental organisations and is collaborating on various programmes for the development and spread of Telemedicine, co-ordinating the different groups involved in these projects. |
